When the body of Major Wm. Martin of the British Royal Marines washed up on a beach in Spain, the Nazis thought they had just stumbled across an incredibly lucky piece of evidence. Instead they had just been invited into Operation Mincemeat, an elaborate hoax that would inevitably cause them to lose their grasp on the militarily strategic island of Sicily.
